The 2013 SciWorld Online Convention was an online simming and role-playing convention. It was held in IRC rooms at Independence Fleet from Wednesday, May 1 through Friday, May 3, 2013, with Landon Wakeland serving as the Master of Ceremonies. The convention featured events run by members from the Continuum Online, Federation Sim Fleet, Independence Fleet, Ongoing Worlds, Sixth Fleet, Starfleet Legacy Alliance, STF, Trek Online, UFOP: StarBase 118. It was the eleventh SciWorld Online Convention held.
Organization[]
The 2013 SciWorld Online Convention was the first SciWorld to be organized independently. In all other years it had been organized under the auspicious of either the Simming League or Ongoing Worlds.
The organization of the 2013 convention occurred mostly throughout the course of April. On April 10th, a blog on OngoingWorlds first announced that it was coming up, noting that it had only two event slots filled out.[1] In the weeks after that, around twenty more events were filled out.
The convention was held in irc chat rooms hosted by Independence Fleet. Independence Fleet had previously hosted the convention in 2011. The selection of Independence Fleet generated controversy. Phoenix Roleplaying formally boycotted the 2013 Convention, upset that no reply had been given to their request to host the convention.
