Educational role-play is the type of role-play used in education, used by for instance language students as a learning method. In this type of role-play, the participants usually do not create specific role-playing characters, often only making up a situation in which they will apply new vocabulary or grammatical items.

Examples of situations Edit

  • One of the participants has lost the way or needs to ask how to get somewhere, and asks another (who plays the role of a stranger) how to get to that place, often an existing location which both participants know.
  • In languages where there are formal and informal registers, one participant can ask permission to another, who is either their friend or a superior. Depending on the relation between both "characters," the register will then change.
