Maureen Nicks was the owner and former commanding officer of The Noir. Betazed and a quarter human, she entered Starfleet Academy at 17 and graduated in less than three years. She excelled at navigation and combat. Following graduation she posted to the USS Osborn and was subsequent recruited by Starfleet Intelligence. Promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade, she later transferred to the USS Khitomer, a combat operations vessel, and was promoted to full Lieutenant. Following circumstances which remain classified, and which her commanding officer believed to have been the result of a Section 31 set up, resigned her commission. Maureen later acquired ownership of The Noir and served as its commanding officer.
